Where and how could I be considered high-risk? Nothing was disputed, I submitted all proof requested, and had only sold one item as an individual (not business) account!! Apologizing profusely, I contacted my buyer to tell him the bad news (thankfully a friend, and not some random Joe Schmo just passing through), and he agreed to a refund in full and will pay me via Paypal. My only other option would be to refund to the buyer and use another means of payment or another payment service. This e-mail stated my account had been flagged as a high-risk account, would be terminated upon receipt of the e-mail so I could no longer use their service, and they were holding the payment I had taken for 90 days, at which time it would be deposited into my bank account. Attempted again today (4/30/13), got an e-mail reply that it would take 1-2 business days. I had to fill out everything, but it retained my uploaded images. Went back on their site and it asked me to verify. I get a pop-up on their site that it will take 1-2 days further to process this extra verification. Complying fully (but warily) to this, I submit this information on the weekend. This entails choosing how I take payments (reader/manually enter/manually enter because reader is broken), uploading an image of a State/Federal ID, submitting an image of transaction proof (I submitted our conversation and receipt of transaction), and description of what was being sold. Checking on my account on, I find that I have to do further verification. Still not seeing the amount ($964.85.the amount after 3.5% + $.15 that they charge) in my bank account. Seeing everything moving along smoothly, I ship him the laptop via UPS and he receives it a couple days later. Soon, I see the $1000 charge in my SquareUp account and confirmed with his bank that his debit card processed it correctly. I process the payment by manually entering his information into the mobile application, and it approves. I also had him send me a text (iMessage) stating what he wanted, how much he was paying, etc. We verbally authorize and confirm the transaction.

So, via phone, he gives me his credit card and personal information. He lives out of state now, but we've been friends for years. My friend purchased an Alienware laptop + some accessories from me. By all the comments, it looks like it has been happening for awhile.Avoid at all costs!! After creating my account, verifying it (by minimal deposit/withdraws from my bank account), and getting the little card reader for my iPhone, I preceded to take a payment. This was my opinion also, but it sure messed with my weekend. I also received this text on February 6, 2021. But if you block the phone number, remember you can't get a receipt by text from any business using Square terminals. So don't open the link if you haven't just been to the business named in the text. Though someone could spoof Square's number. If they did no business would use their terminals. I doubt Square is scamming or spamming anyone's phone number. Presumably the receipts people receive from businesses they did not go to are due to people entering the wrong phone number. I was given the option of getting a receipt by email, text, or printed, I chose text and entered my mobile phone number. The business had a terminal that looked like an iPad with a card reader. I received a text with a link to a receipt from a small business where I had just paid with a credit card.
